Justin Verlander’s face pretty much summed it up.

A member of the armed forces gave a moving rendition of “God Bless America” Wednesday at the Detroit Tigers-Minnesota Twins game at Comerica Park. The performance was going beautifully until the final lyric, when the man’s voice cracked on the word “home.”

The camera, however, was not pointed at the singer, but rather showed Tigers pitcher Verlander cringe as the note went flat. Verlander turned around the night for fans and pitched a complete game to give the Tigers a victory of 5-1.
