People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals visited Capitol Hill Wednesday to hand out tofu hot dogs. The crowd was sparse and the talking points were flying, until The Daily Caller asked about the 95 percent of adoptable dogs and cats in PETA’s care that die at the group’s headquarters each year.

Suddenly, the activists who like to “speak out” for their cause went silent. (RELATED: Documents show PETA kills more than 95 percent of pets in its care)

PETA’s “lettuce ladies” wore strategically placed salad fixings, and nothing else, adding to the reputation of a group that critics say spares animals from becoming dinner but manages to treat women like pieces of meat.
