Watch Hillsdale College President Dr. Larry Arnn explain why his college commissioned a new depiction of the Founding Fathers ratifying the Constitution.
“The chairman of our art department Sam Knecht came to me … and he said something that was radically implausible to me when he started. He said, ‘You know those famous paintings of the signing of the Declaration and the Constitution, both in Independence Hall … they’re not very good,’ he said. ‘They’re good in their way, but they’re not quite good in the way they should be.’ I said why, Sam, and he said, ‘Well, the room doesn’t look like that. They’re not true. The other thing is, the people weren’t really arranged that way.’
