With no other clear motive other than to destroy the competition, former “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” star Vincent D’Onofrio is charged with annihilating an entire group of sand artists during Coney Island’s Sand Sculpture competition Saturday.

D’Onofrio, his wife and children stole the show by winning the first-place trophy in the “mixed” sand art category, DNA Info reports.

The D’Onofrios built an elaborate treasure chest, complete with sand skeletons guarding some gold coin treasure.

However, as details about the D’Onofrios emerge, the case becomes even more perplexing: It turns out that none of the family members have had any formal sandcastle-building training, yet they still won first place in their division.

“We watched this morning on YouTube how to do sandcastles and we just figured it out when we got here,” Vincent told the New York Daily News, with a devil-may-care attitude.

“We never thought we were as good as we are doing this,” he said, perhaps to divert attention away from the family in a self-deprecating manner.

But D’Onofrio’s second wife, Carin van der Donk, may have given away some of the family’s shocking political views, “We love pirates!” van der Donk told DNA Info, alluding to an allegiance with nefarious sea burglars.

Clearly, this is one for NYPD’s Major Case Squad.
