House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday that he would like Ohio Sen. Rob Portman to be Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s running mate.

Asked for his thoughts on the so-called veepstakes during an interview on Fox News, Boehner admitted: “I’m partial to Rob Portman.”

Boehner said that his fellow Ohioan, who served as director of the Office of Management and Budget in the George W. Bush administration, is “a long-time friend.”

He added that Portman “knows his way around Washington,” and would be “a great asset for Governor Romney.”
