Man spends the night atop Golden Gate Bridge

California Highway Patrol officers have detained the man who apparently spent the night on the very top of a Golden Gate Bridge’s south tower, authorities said.

The man, whose name was not released, was found on the peak of the tower of the bridge around 9:45 a.m., said CHP Sgt. Diana McDermott. She said the man will be taken to a psychiatric facility for evaluation.

Police responded to the bridge at 6:15 p.m. Thursday after callers reported that a man was threatening to kill himself, police said. The man then climbed onto one of the cables and headed up the south tower of the bridge, police said.
