Although President Barack Obama has not visited Israel since taking office in 2009, his campaign has said he is “likely” to make a visit during his second term in office if he is re-elected. That has opened Obama up to criticism from GOP candidate Mitt Romney, and from borscht belt comedian Jackie Mason.

On Sunday’s “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio” on New York City’s 770 WABC-AM, Mason took some jabs at the president for his absence from the Jewish homeland.

“What I would like to know is this: Why does it take five years to find out that Israel is there?” Mason said. “Did he just buy a map a week ago? He didn’t know that Israel exists until two hours ago?”

And according to Mason, Obama could have easily made a stop while he was in the Middle East.

“Can someone answer this question? The Jews gave him 78 percent of their vote,” Mason continued. “They went everywhere to help him but he can’t go across the street to help them? … He is in Egypt and in Lebanon and every country around there within a block and a half of Israel and he couldn’t cross the street to say hello to them because there was too much of an effort there? Five years to cross the street to say hello to the Israelis and only if he is re-elected?”
