Obama refuses to release beer recipe in new White House cover-up

President Barack Obama brings his own specially brewed beer with him on the road, and he’s refusing to share its recipe with the American people.

Obama, The New York Times reports, is the first president to brew his own beer in the White House, and it is apparently very tasty. “Unbelievably good,” raved assistant White House chef Sam Kass on the Obama Foodarama blog. “It is superb,” press secretary Jay Carney told reporters during a recent campaign swing through Iowa. “It is quite good.”

As Charles C.W. Cooke notes at National Review, the president has lately letting everyone in earshot know that he enjoys beer as much your average Joe Six-pack, and certainly much more than the wealthy, teetotaling Mitt Romney.

The president has taken to buying beers for supporters at campaign stops — “Four more beers!” has become a common chant among some Obama  faithful — and even the notoriously health-conscious first lady has approvingly mentioned her husband’s fondness for America’s favorite alcoholic beverage at campaign stops.

And yet, during a time of war and high unemployment, Obama is keeping his own personal beer recipe a secret.

Now a group of Reddit-empowered patriots are demanding that the president inform the American people how to make White House Honey Ale, one of the three official beers now produced by the executive branch; at press time their petition had nearly 4,000 signatures.

“In keeping with the brewing traditions of the founding fathers, homebrewers across America call on the Obama Administration to release the recipe for the White House home brew so that it may be enjoyed by all,” the petition reads.

The beer is brewed with honey from the White House beehive, according to New York Magazine, and comes in both light and dark varieties. The rest, however, remains a mystery.

The petition will need at least 25,000 signatures before it receives an “official response” from the White House.
