Barack Obama holds Reddit “Ask Me Anything” chat while black people drown

Seriously.

Holding a convention during a hurricane: heartless. Doing a Reddit chat during a hurricane: AWESOME! Well, it depends on the political party.

P.S. OMG, the Greatest President Ever totally typed this!

UPDATE: Hey everybody – this is barack. Just finished a great rally in Charlottesville, and am looking forward to your questions. At the top, I do want to say that our thoughts and prayers are with folks who are dealing with Hurricane Isaac in the Gulf, and to let them know that we are going to be coordinating with state and local officials to make sure that we give families everything they need to recover.

Ummm… just as soon as he finishes his Reddit chat. And then maybe an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Or is it Glamour today? So hard to keep track.

P.P.S. Meanwhile, ex-Yahoo News Washington bureau chief David Chalian has apologized, sort of, for saying the Romneys “are happy to party when black people drown”:

“I am profoundly sorry for making an inappropriate and thoughtless joke,” he wrote. “I was commenting on the challenge of staging a convention during a hurricane and about campaign optics. I have apologized to the Romney campaign, and I want to take this opportunity to publicly apologize to Gov. and Mrs. Romney. I also regret causing any distraction from the exceptional coverage of the Republican convention by Yahoo News and ABC News.”

Distraction, or punctuation? Seems to me, he just made explicit what ABC, CNN, MSNBC, et al. keep trying to hint at.

So, it was a joke. That must be why he prefaced it with, “Don’t be afraid to say…”

P.P.P.S. So far, Chalian’s prediction is way off. Only one person has died in Louisiana from the storm, when he fell from a tree he had climbed for some unknown reason. There’s a lot of flooding and power outages, but it sounds like it could’ve been a lot worse. I’m glad the storm is milder than expected, because I’m not a liberal.
