Mission accomplished: Mitt Romney is finally humanized

Despite Clint Eastwood’s funny, but utterly inappropriate speech, it was still a very good night for Mitt Romney. The testimonials and personal stories, coupled with this terrific bio video, helped introduce Romney — humanize him, really — in a way that a speech by a polished politician could not. We already know Romney is competent, but this emotional connection was the missing ingredient lacking in his quest for the presidency. My guess is Thursday night went a long way toward completing the mission. Sen. Marco Rubio’s speech was, as usual, superb. And Romney’s speech — though not perfect — was certainly very good.

Overall, the RNC Convention told Mitt Romney’s story — and showed his compassionate side. It also made the case that Barack Obama’s policies have failed America. It pushed back hard against the “war on women” meme. And it made the case for entrepreneurism and earned success in America. Lastly, the convention introduced a diverse group of rising star Republicans to the nation.

Not bad.
