Yeah, remember those guys? The ones who tried to blow up a bridge near Cleveland last spring? It was big news until everybody realized they were all Occupiers. Whoops! This embarrassed the Democrats and the media (PTR), threatening to upend their “Teabaggers are the real terrorists” narrative. There was no way to try to blame it on the Tea Party, so the story went away as quickly and quietly as possible.
To TPM’s credit, they’re still paying attention to the case, and here’s the latest development:
Connor Stevens, Doug Wright and Brandon Baxter — three men affiliated with Occupy Cleveland who were arrested in the spring for plotting to blow up a bridge — entered guilty pleas on Wednesday afternoon. A fourth man pleaded guilty earlier this year, while a fifth suspect is undergoing a competency evaluation. All three pled guilty to “conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction, attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and attempted use of an explosive device to destroy property used in interstate commerce,” according to the Justice Department…
“We are pleased these defendants have admitted to their intent to utilize violence, which threatened innocent citizens, to further their ideological views,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen Anthony.
Of course, they’re not real Occupiers, because real Occupiers aren’t violent. Well, as long as you don’t count all the violence that tends to happen wherever Occupiers congregate.
So. These guys are Occupiers. Four out of five of them have admitted that they tried to blow up a commuter bridge and kill a bunch of people. I just thought that was worth pointing out.
