The web-hosting service GoDaddy has denied reports that its site was breached by a member of the hacktivist group Anonymous.

“It was not a ‘hack’ and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS),” wrote Scott Wagner, interim CEO of Go Daddy, in a Tuesday press release.

Wagner instead places the blame on “a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables.”

“Once the issues were identified, we took corrective actions to restore services for our customers and GoDaddy.com,” Wagner continued. “We have implemented measures to prevent this from occurring again.”

GoDaddy.com hosts hundred of thousands of sites, and if it had been hacked, massive amounts of personal and business information would have been compromised, including business email accounts.

GoDaddy moved swiftly to the Twitterverse yesterday to assure its customers that it was working on the problem, tweeting: “We’re aware of the trouble people are having with our site. We’re working on it.”

In today’s press release, Wagner asserted that “at no time was any customer data at risk or were any of our systems compromised.”

Hacker “Anonymous Own3r” originally took credit for the breach, tweeting: “The attack is not coming from Anonymous coletive [sic], the attack it’s coming only from me.”

A source from TheDC’s earlier report said that the exploit did not look like Anonymous’ typical style of intrusion.
