In this week’s issue of People Magazine, Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly talks about juggling her family and a hectic work schedule.

The “America Live” host, 41, wasn’t always a journalist. Kelly started out as a litigator in Syracuse, N.Y. before making a career change at age 30.

“By the end I just hated it,” Kelly told People of being a lawyer. “I loved arguing in front of a jury, but there’s so much paper pushing. I realized I had done nothing fun in my 20s, just toiled away. I resolved I wouldn’t spend my 30s the same way.”

Kelly was able to parlay her talent for arguing into an on-camera gig with ABC News in Washington, D.C. Fox hired her in 2004 to cover the Supreme Court, and just two years later she was made an anchor.

Now, Kelly is one of FNC’s biggest names. She and co-host Bret Baier had record-breaking viewership for their Republican National Convention coverage this year from Tampa, Fla.

FNC Vice President Michael Clemente said he sees big things for Kelly. “She is bright and knows how to ask the right questions in a polite but aggressive way,” he told the magazine. “There’s nothing to hold her back.”

Still, the wife and mother of two young children balances out her full schedule by bringing her family along on business trips, like when she took her kids to the Iowa caucuses back in January.

“I get to spend extra time with them that way,” Kelly said. “I’m not doing it to try to prove a point. I’m doing it because I’m committed to the job, but my family still comes first.”
