LEESBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia is the decider this election.
The genuine swing state holds an outsized role in determining the presidency and control of the Senate. It is one of roughly a dozen battleground states that could tip the election to either President Barack Obama or Republican Mitt Romney.
It also is one of about a dozen Senate races that could decide who’s in charge on Capitol Hill in January.
Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican George Allen — two former governors — are locked in a close race for the Senate. In talking to voters, both stress their ability to reach across the political divide to get something done.
Democrats currently hold a slight advantage in the Senate, 51-47, plus two independents who caucus with Democrats.
