Let the record of the Benghazi attack show… whatever Obama needs it to show

Font Size:

Over the last 7 days, the Obama administration has repeatedly insisted that the attack on our Libyan consulate and the murder of Christopher Stevens on 9/11 was all because of a YouTube video that mocked Islam. Remember that? Remember how they kept saying “Innocence of Muslims” is such a mean and nasty video, so very insensitive and hurtful, that those poor victimized Muslims just couldn’t help themselves? Not that the U.S. government condones the murder of our own ambassador, of course, but hey, whaddaya gonna do? This amateur filmmaker should’ve thought about that before he committed murder by proxy.

Why, as recently as last night, Obama was telling David Letterman that it was all the fault of a “shadowy character” with a YouTube account and an outdated understanding of the First Amendment. Yet another private citizen thrown under the bus for standing in the way of Obama’s path to power.

Yeah, about that whole deal… Maybe not so much? Foreign Policy reports:

The Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was in fact “a terrorist attack” and the U.S. government has indications that members of al Qaeda were directly involved, a top Obama administration official said Wednesday morning.

“I would say yes, they were killed in the course of a terrorist attack on our embassy,” Matt Olsen, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, said Wednesday at a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, in response to questioning from Chairman Joe Lieberman (I-CT) about the attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

As for who was responsible, Olsen said it appears there were attackers from a number of different militant groups that operate in and around Benghazi, and said there are already signs of al Qaeda involvement.

Huh. Well, I guess all that other stuff goes down the memory hole:

Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia…

In other soon-to-be-willfully-forgotten news, you might also remember Carney insisting that Obama is always on top of world events because he reads his daily briefing on his iPad. Well, you can forget you ever heard that, as Wynton Hall at Big Peace reports:

When Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen and the Government Accountability Institute reported that President Obama has attended less than half of his Presidential Daily Briefs (PDBs) on intelligence, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney called the findings “hilarious.” The next day, U.S. Libyan Ambassador Chris Stevens and three American staff members were murdered.

According to Mr. Carney, Mr. Obama doesn’t need in-person briefings because the president gets the written version on his iPad…

But now, in an apparent 180-degree reversal, the White House official calendar shows that for the last four days Mr. Obama has ditched his iPad and has instead opted for the live briefings.

That’s a good thing. As Mr. Thiessen explains, the live briefings are far preferred over the written daily intel reports, because they offer presidents and their advisors an opportunity to drill down into intelligence threats and to challenge assumptions. “This process cannot be replicated on paper,” says Mr. Thiessen.

Or on glass, as the case may be.

Sorry, champ. I know, I know, listening to other people talk is a drag, but no more Angry Birds while you’re on the clock.

And now, dear reader, you will forget that you read this post and any other material containing the Obama administration’s previous version of events.

Or else.

P.S. And forget about the U.S. condemning free speech in France too.
