NEW YORK – Occupy Wall Street organizer Aaron Minter was sentenced to 10 days in New York City’s notorious jail, Rikers Island, on Friday.
Gideon Oliver, a New York City-based lawyer and president of the National Lawyers Guild-New York City Chapter, said on Twitter Friday that Minter took a plea on a case arising from a Metropolitan Transportation Authority action for vandalizing subways in early April.
“He will be out on Monday or Tuesday,” said Oliver.
Minter, who goes by the alias Aaron Black, was arrested April 5 by local police after he and his accomplice Jeffery Brewer were recorded by local TV news placing decals on subway seats that read, “Priority Seating for the 1%”.
Police found the two men after seeing the TV news segment.
By then, he already had prior arrests for burglary and menacing, the New York Daily News reported in April.
Minter was arrested Sunday afternoon by police during an Occupy Wall Street demonstration. He was released from custody Monday evening.
A source told The Daily Caller that Minter had been seen at Trinity Church near Zuccotti Park Wednesday evening collecting witnesses for his Friday court appearance.
Oliver told TheDC that he figured that Minter’s release would be early next week since he had already served time after his arrest.
