Minnesota gays upset over pro-gay-marriage ads featuring straight people

With gay marriage on November ballots in several states, gay rights groups have been buying airtime to run ads in favor of marriage equality. But most of the ads feature heterosexual people on-screen — a choice that’s angering some in those states’ gay communities.

Gay Minnesotan Alexander Zachary finds it offensive. “The only thing I can think of is they’ve hired a political strategist and they’s said straight people don’t want to see gay people on TV,” said Zachary.

In Minnesota the ballot initiative is especially contentious, since opinion on a constitutional amendment is split almost down the middle. The language would amend the state constitution to declare that marriage is an institution between one man and one woman.
