At a Tuesday campaign rally in Charlotte, N.C., Vice President Joe Biden rhetorically asked the crowd how the Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s campaign can justify raising taxes on the middle class that has been “buried the last four years.”
The video clip now appears on the the Romney campaign’s Romney Response Tumblr page as an unintentional knock on the Obama administration’s effect on the middle class.

Of course, Biden doesn’t blame the Obama White House for the middle classes’ financial struggles.
“They talk about the ‘Great Recession’ like it fell out of the sky in 2008,” he said, before blaming it on tax cuts and wars carried out under the George W. Bush administration. “What did it do? It produced the ‘Great Recession,’ which absolutely eviscerated the middle class.”
Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan was quick to comment on Biden’s “buried” remark.
“We agree,” he said at a campaign rally in Iowa. “That means we need to stop digging by electing Mitt Romney the next president of the United States.”
Biden has since clarified his statement, telling a crowd in Asheville, N.C., “The middle class was buried by the policies that Romney and Ryan have supported.”
