The State Department had no clue about any danger in Benghazi, except for the threats and bombings

Eli Lake at the Daily Beast has been all over the Benghazi scandal, and here’s his latest:

In the five months leading up to this year’s 9/11 anniversary, there were two bombings on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and increasing threats to and attacks on the Libyan nationals hired to provide security at the U.S. missions in Tripoli and Benghazi.

Details on these alleged incidents stem in part from the testimony of a handful of whistleblowers who approached the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in the days and weeks following the attack on the Benghazi consulate. The incidents are disclosed in a letter to be sent Tuesday to Hillary Clinton from Rep. Darrell Issa, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the chairman of the oversight committee’s subcommittee that deals with national security.

The State Department did not offer comment on the record last night.

The new information disclosed in the letter obtained by The Daily Beast strongly suggests the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and the late Ambassador Chris Stevens were known by U.S. security personnel to be targets for terrorists. Indeed, the terrorists made their threats openly on Facebook.

Gee, if only the State Department had access to Facebook.

And of course they didn’t comment on the record. They’re not answering questions, remember? I know a little something about that.

Read the whole thing. Lake is doing great work. This administration botched the job, our ambassador was murdered, and now the people responsible are trying to lie their way out of it.

Obama lied about Benghazi. Pass it on.

Update: And this is just one of Obama’s scandals. Bryan Preston has “A Guide to the Obama Administration’s Five Major Scandals for Mainstream Media Dummies.” Although “dummy” seems harsh. I believe the term is “differently competent and honest.”

Update: U.S. embassy in Libya asked for extra security, request denied.

Update: The only reason Bush didn’t blame 9/11 on a YouTube video is because YouTube hadn’t been invented yet. Or something.

Update: When you’ve lost CNN…

Yes, there’s a coverup. Now it just needs to move from CNN to someplace where people will see it.

Update: Here’s an example of how the State Department solves a problem:

  1. Refuse to answer questions about Benghazi because of an “ongoing FBI investigation” that still hasn’t begun.
  2. Remove all government personnel from the area, including the FBI.
  3. Problem solved!

Update: Even Jon Stewart is fed up with this crap.

And Con Coughlin at the Telegraph asks: “Did the White House order a cover-up over the murder of Libya’s US ambassador?” Let me think about it YES.

Update: Jay Carney says, “I’m not going to get into a situation under review by the State Department and the FBI.” See? Problem solved!
