1.) The cliff cometh — We continue on towards the cliff, acting as if the road ahead is smooth. But it’s anything but. Betsi Flores reports for The Daily Caller News Foundation:
“Social Security did not take in as much money as it spent last year, according to the latest report by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). The CBO estimates that over the next ten years, Social Security expenditures will continue to exceed the dedicated revenues by about10 percent as the Baby Boomers retire. “That gap will grow larger in the 2020s, and by 2030, Social Security outlays will be about 6 percent of gross domestic product and will exceed dedicated tax revenues by about 20 percent,’ the CBO writes. For fiscal year 2012, Social Security spending totaled $773 billion, nearly 5 percent of GDP. The projected year of Social Security insolvency continues to be moved up, with the latest projections being 2033.”
If you think Social Security is bad, wait until you see Medicare.
2.) Desperation, thy name is the Obama campaign — President Obama’s campaign has been desperate. They can’t campaign on their record, so they campaign by attacking Mitt Romney the person. After their candidate got trounced during Wednesday night’s presidential debate, Team Obama is going back to their playbook, reports TheDC’s Neil Munro:
“President Barack Obama’s chief campaign strategist, David Axelrod, led the offensive to claim that Romney is deceptive and dishonest in a Thursday morning press conference. The debate ‘was a very vigorous performance [by Romney], but one that was devoid of honesty,’ Axelrod claimed. ‘The day after, the question … is really one of character, and whether or not a candidate that is so fundamentally rooted in hiding the facts and truth from the American people, in deception, is the basis of trust on which you assign the presidency to a person,’ he announced.”
3.) Fox trot — For Wednesday night’s presidential debate, Fox News dominated. D-O-M-I-N-A-T-E-D. TheDC’s Jeff Poor reports:
“According to overnight numbers provided by Nielsen Media Research, FNC beat all broadcast and cable news networks yesterday evening. It averaged 10.4 million viewers from 9:00-10:30 p.m. EST, with nearly three million viewers in the key 25-54-year old demographic. FNC nearly doubled CNN’s audience of 6 million viewers and more than doubled MSNBC’s viewership of 4.7 million. It also handily beat CBS, ABC and NBC during the actual debate.”
4.) Stop it. Just stop it –Another group of high school students made a video complaining about their new lunch menu. Maybe it’s good, maybe it’s bad, but TheDC Morning just doesn’t care. It only cares that these stupid videos don’t get made anymore. Caroline May reports for TheDC:
“Inspired by last month’s ‘We are Hungry’ parody video criticizing newly implemented federal school lunch regulations, students at another Kansas high school have created their own video protest of the government’s restrictive food rations. Students at Rolla High School created the new video, titled ‘The HUNGER Games – A Parody of the 2012 School Lunch Program,’ which slams their light lunches for leaving them hungry and tired. The video, which has been posted on YouTube, sharply criticizes the government’s’one-size-fits-all approach to dining.’ ‘As ordered by the regime, you are going to receive less portions and you are going to be expected to do more. Because you are fat,’ one of the student actors says at the beginning of the video.”
