The Department of Justice is refusing to take action against an Indiana abortion clinic that a pro-life group says is violating the Americans with Disabilities Act by failing to offer its customers wheelchair ramps or parking spaces for the handicapped.
Allen County Right to Life executive director Cathie Humbarger wrote a letter to the DOJ in which she said she witnessed multiple instances of women leaving the Fort Wayne Women’s Health Clinic “in apparent discomfort.”
Those women, Humbarger wrote, were “unable to walk unassisted after apparent abortion procedures.”
“The Department of Justice, led by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, is playing politics,” Indiana Right to Life president Mike Fichter said in a statement.
“When other businesses like health clubs and restaurants have to comply with ADA rules, why does it appear an abortion facility gets a free pass? … This sad situation highlights the need for a pro-life administration that will not protect the abortion industry if laws are being ignored.”
Reached for comment, Fichter told The Daily Caller that “the Department of Justice had a cut and dry case before them with this complaint.”
“If the DOJ wasn’t even willing to take action on a straightforward case like this, what reason do we have to believe it would act any differently if other abortion business complaints are filed?”
Fichter contended that the Department of Health and Human Services in the Obama administration “promotes abortion through Obamacare and now the Department of Justice has given an abortion business a free pass to apparently operate outside of federal law.”
