Vice President Joe Biden dominated Facebook user discussions during and following Thursday’s first and only vice presidential debate.

Facebook’s U.S. Politics team wrote shortly after the debate that Biden’s name was mentioned more than 400,000 times on the social networking website between 9 and 10 p.m., the first hour of the debate.

“During tonight’s vice presidential debate, Joe Biden had 36 percent more mentions on Facebook than Paul Ryan VP, while President Barack Obama received 27 percent more mentions than Mitt Romney,” Facebook said in a post.

The Facebook – CNN Election Insights Tool produced the results.

Buzz about the vice president, who aggressively attacked Ryan’s positions during the debate, further increased the following day.

“More people have been talking about Biden over the past day than Ryan, Romney, or President Barack Obama,” said Facebook.

Discussion between Facebook users aged 25-34 centered largely around Biden.
