The Obama-Biden war on the faithful will be costly to everyone. The contraceptive mandate will cause many institutions to drop coverage altogether rather than compromise their religious views. It will also drive up insurance costs further, causing still more companies and institutions to drop coverage as unaffordable. More people will end up in Obamacare’s destined-to-fail taxpayer-subsidized system. Some universities are already announcing they will do this — Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio, for example, announced it would drop student policies rather than abide by the mandate. They will pay the fines if they have to, but their beliefs are not for sale.
Franciscan and these other institutions know that the right to religious liberty is essential to the American way. It is enshrined in our founding documents and was fundamental to this land long before it became a nation — it was one of the reasons many people came here in the first place.
These are facts Vice President Biden ought to know. Since he and the president refuse to learn them, the American people may teach them a lesson this fall.
