Approx 2,000 pro-lifers call Planned Parenthood for mammograms to prove Obama false

In the wake of President Barack Obama’s assertion that women “rely on” Planned Parenthood for mammograms, about 2,000 pro-life activists called Planned Parenthood offices to schedule appointments for the breast health service, according to the Catholic EWTN News.

Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms, but it does offer breast exams and referrals.

“When Governor Romney says that we should eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood, there are millions of women all across the country, who rely on Planned Parenthood for, not just contraceptive care, they rely on it for mammograms, for cervical cancer screenings. That’s a pocketbook issue for women and families all across the country,” Obama said during the second debate on Long Island’s Hofstra University Tuesday night.

In response, Pro-lifers organized a “Call Planned Parenthood to Schedule Your Imaginary Mammogram Day,” EWTN reported Saturday.

The event’s Facebook page — which has also incurred the wrath of a number of pro-choice trolls — urged people to “Schedule your imaginary mammogram at Planned Parenthood!”

“We all know Planned Parenthood DOES NOT PERFORM MAMMOGRAMS,” the page reads. “However, President Obama, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards, celebrities in Hollywood and countless Planned Parenthood supporters claim over and over that they do. They absolutely refuse to admit that the largest abortion organization in the country does NOT PERFORM MAMMOGRAMS. We’ll prove it.”

Over 2,000 people claimed they were participating in the event on the Facebook page.

The pro-life group, Live Action, known for making stings on Planned Parenthood to expose the abortion provider for unethical or illegal activity produced a video of some of the calls they performed — with a woman calling Planned Parenthood facilities across the country requesting to schedule a mammogram because “the president said on national T.V. that you give mammograms.” All the Planned Parenthood representatives explained that they do not provide the service.

On October 17, Planned Parenthood Senior Director of Medical Services Dr. Deborah Nucatola issued a statement explaining that the organization provides 750,000 clinical breast exams to women across the country as well as referrals for mammogram services.

“Women rely on Planned Parenthood for referrals for and financial help with mammograms and specialized diagnostic follow-up tests (like ultrasounds and biopsies) when indicated by age, history and/or clinical breast exam,” she said in a statement. “Like the vast majority of primary care physicians and OB-GYN’s, Planned Parenthood doctors and nurses refer patients to other facilities for mammograms based on breast exams, age, or family history. For many women, Planned Parenthood is the only health care provider they will see all year, and thus the only way they will get a referral for a mammogram.”
