President Barack Obama said Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was suffering from a “severe outbreak” of “stage-three Romnesia” at the presidential debate on Monday night.
“Early in this campaign, he [Romney] said he’d do the opposite of whatever I did in Israel. But last night I reminded him that cooperation with Israel’s never been stronger,” Obama told a crowd at a campaign rally in Florida on Tuesday.
“Last night he said he always supported taking out Osama bin Laden. But in 2007, he said it wasn’t worth moving heaven and earth to catch one man. Now, we’ve come up with a name for this condition. It’s called ‘Romnesia.'”
“We had a severe outbreak last night,” the president said to cheers. “It was at least stage-three ‘Romnesia.'”
Obama continued, “I just want to go over with you some of the symptoms, Delray, because I want to make sure nobody in the surrounding area catches it.”
Obama went on to criticize Romney for saying the auto industry should go through bankruptcy instead of receiving a government bailout.
“If you say that you love American cars during a debate, but you wrote an article titled ‘Let Detroit Go Bankrupt’, you might have ‘Romnesia.'”
“If you talk about how much you love teachers during a debate, but said just a few weeks ago that we shouldn’t hire any more because they won’t grow the economy, what do you have?”
At the third debate, Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, said the federal government did not hire teachers in his state. Romney has said the hiring of teachers and public safety workers should be up to states and localities.
“I love teachers, and I’m happy to have states and communities that want to hire teachers, do that,” Romney said Monday night.
“By the way, I don’t like to have the federal government start pushing its way deeper and deeper into — into our schools. Let the states and localities do that. I was a governor. The federal government didn’t hire our teachers.”
