House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told Jon Stewart that the presidential election is about “respect for women or not.” Calling GOP candidate Mitt Romney a “champion for women,” she quipped, is a “Mitthology.”

“The Republicans want to sever the Medicare guarantee, end it as a guarantee for seniors. That, to me, is the most important thing that is on the ballot when you think of the impact it has on seniors and their families. And you know what? They misrepresent it,” Pelosi said of the GOP on Thursday night’s edition of The Daily Show.

“They say — you know, they reverse it. They say we took money, spent it on Obamacare. Not true.” (RELATED VIDEO: Obama: “I have become fond of this term Obamacare”)

“Well,” Stewart responded, “they would say they’re saving it because it’s going bankrupt, so they’re going to save it.”

Pelosi disagreed. “But that’s exactly what we did,” she said. “We took the money to save it. They took the money and put it — gave tax cuts to the wealthiest people. Millionaires over Medicare, that’s a lot of what the election’s about.”

“Women — respect for women, or not — that’s another ‘Mitthology,’ that he’s a champion for women. Please.”

“I think they [Republicans] would probably push back on the idea that the election’s about whether or not you respect women,” Stewart said.

“But it is,” Pelosi interjected. “And women have the most — just about the most — to lose, whether you’re a woman of childbearing age or a senior woman, in my case,” she said.

“Not being either one, I am not qualified to answer,” Stewart joked.

“Well, that’s good,” Pelosi responded. “It’s good you say that because my Republican colleagues say of me that I think I know more about having babies — having five children myself, they say, ‘Nancy Pelosi thinks she knows more about having babies than the Pope.'”
