As the East Coast braces for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy, Facebook is attempting to promote various disaster relief efforts and keep users updated with the latest information.

The company’s Global Disaster Relief page enables users to follow along as the company spotlights “efforts on Facebook to help respond to disasters around the globe.” The 2010 earthquake in Haiti was one of the first major disasters covered by the company’s page.

Posts on the Disaster Relief page regarding Hurricane Sandy include updates from the U.S. National Weather Service and FEMA.

Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes said in a status update, “As long as there’s power, we’ll be updating the Global Disaster Relief on Facebook and Government on Facebook pages with relevant Hurricane Sandy information over the next couple of days.

He encouraged users to “Like” those pages “for the latest news on Frankenstorm!”
