Citing the effects of Hurricane Sandy, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan, cancelled campaign events on Monday and Tuesday.

“Out of sensitivity for the millions of Americans in the path of Hurricane Sandy, we are canceling tonight’s events with Governor Romney in Wisconsin and Congressman Ryan in Melbourne and Lakeland, Florida,” Romney Communications Director Gail Gitcho said in a statement Monday.

The spokeswoman said all events scheduled for both Romney and Ryan on Tuesday have also been cancelled.

“Governor Romney believes this is a time for the nation and its leaders to come together to focus on those Americans who are in harms way,” Gitcho said. “We will provide additional details regarding Governor Romney’s and Congressman Ryan’s schedule when they are available.”

President Obama also cancelled scheduled campaign events in Florida and Ohio on Monday, allowing Vice President Biden and former President Bill Clinton appear in his place.
