A former Democratic aide to Bill and Hillary Clinton is throwing her support behind Mitt Romney in the presidential election, arguing Romney can offer “bipartisan leadership.”

“I know what it means to work across the aisle on issues that are important to the American people,” Gigi Georges, the former Executive Director of the New York State Democratic Party, said Saturday. “And that’s why I am supporting Mitt Romney.”

Georges, a former special assistant to President Clinton, worked on domestic policy issues for the National Economic Council. She also worked in Hillary Clinton’s Senate office as state director.

“For most of my life, I’ve been an active Democrat,” she said.

But she argued Saturday that Obama hasn’t worked well with both Republicans and Democrats.

“That’s what President Obama promised to do four years ago,” she said. “But like so many of his promises, bipartisan cooperation is just another one he has broken. We can’t have four more years of failed policies and two parties that can’t work together. We need the change Mitt Romney is offering.”

Romney responded to the endorsement, saying Saturday that, “I look forward to working with her and all Americans who want to move this country forward, whether they be Democrats, Republicans, or independents.”
