Reports from the scene say a “powerful explosion” near the the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus blew out most of the hotel’s windows on Sunday. Syrian state media says 11 people were injured in the blast, which it blames on “terrorists,” though that is how the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad also refers to rebels trying to overthrow the government.

The hotel has been used in the past by UN observers. It was also where UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi has stayed.
