If Robert De Niro calls you, you call Robert De Niro back. That’s what rapper Jay-Z learned at a birthday party in honor of Leonardo DiCaprio’s birthday in New York City.

The legendary “Taxi Driver” and “Deer Hunter” actor reportedly called the rap mogul and best friend of President Obama “rude” for failing to return six of his phone calls, according to the New York Post.

A source at the party said that De Niro gave a “dressing down” to the rapper at the party in front of celebrities, including Martin Scorcese, Beyonce and, of course, Leo. If there was one person in the world you wouldn’t want a “dressing down” from (besides your own grandmother) it would have to be De Niro.

The actor was reportedly angry that Jay-Z never called him back over a song he wanted him to record for the TriBeCa Film Festival. The two celebs both live in the NYC neighborhood.

“Bob wasn’t in any mood to make polite conversation,” a source said. “He told Jay that if somebody calls you six times, you call them back. It doesn’t matter who you are, that is just rude.”

It’s a good thing De Niro didn’t go all “Cape Fear” on his ass. (Because De Niro’s character in “Cape Fear” goes legitimately crazy and kills people. Things did not escalate to that level.)

“It was the talk of the party,” a reveler told the Post. “Everyone was saying there’s only one star in New York bigger and badder than Jay-Z, and that’s Robert De Niro. He can be quite scary when he’s angry.”

Yeah, no kidding. Ever see “Taxi Driver”?

No word on if DiCaprio was upset that the attention was diverted away from him at his own celebration.
