The chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, Connecticut Rep. John Larson — who supported the federal bailout of General Motors in 2009 — told The Daily Caller that a bailout of Hostess, while not entirely impossible, would “find a very skeptical Congress.”

“I don’t think that cake has been cooked yet,” Larson told TheDC on Friday at the Capitol. “I think, of course, with all these issues, there should be a thoughtful process. I just hope they try to get the workers back at the table and discuss this. It is certainly a brand name company, but I think you’d find a very skeptical Congress.”

Hostness announced on Friday that it will liquidate, after striking union workers did not return to work by a Thursday evening deadline set by the company.

“That’s the worst thing I’ve heard today. No more twinkies? Wow. … You would think, especially at this time of the year, that they would do their best to get everybody back in the room, and try to save the job and keep twinkies on the table,” Larson said.

The Ho Ho-maker plans to lay off all of its 18,500 workers.
