The real Chris Christie who stopped by “Saturday Night Live” this weekend is a lot like the caricature of Chris Christie played by Bobby Moynihan a few weeks ago.
The brash New Jersey governor appeared on “Weekend Update” to talk to host Seth Meyers about Superstorm Sandy cleanup. Christie said that, while cleanup is going well so far, it “isn’t a job that will be done in a couple of days.”
“Luckily, New Jerseyans are known for their patience,” Christie said. (Which is funny because it’s not true.)
Christie thanked the Red Cross for its hard work, as well as his wife for “putting up with a husband who has smelled like a wet fleece for the past three weeks,” referring to the navy blue pullover the governor has been photographed wearing several times.
Christie said that it is “basically fused to my skin at this point. I’m gonna die in this fleece.”
The governor specifically did not thank the mayors who ignored his evacuation orders, or the reporters who stood outside covering the storm.
“We have windows,” he observed.
Christie finished the segment with a quotation from one of New Jersey’s finest poets: “Everything dies, baby, that’s a fact. But maybe everything that dies someday comes back,” he said. “Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty and meet me tonight in Atlantic City.”
“I don’t know if I’d call him a poet,” Myers said.
Christie replied: “You’re right, he’s more of a saint.”
