Monday Morning “Bleeter”

Bl[ogging + Tw]eeting: The ecology of blogging has shifted–for me, anyway.  I don’t get many hits for little items–I get hits when other blogs link to me, which is usually for bigger items. Meanwhile, I’ve been tweeting a lot, because it’s faster and easier (you don’t have to write a headline, for one thing). Unfortunately, the @kausmickey twitter feed doesn’t seem to appear on this page anymore. Possible solution: I’ll occasionally try to do for those tweets what blogs originally did for web pages–link to the more useful ones, with comments or amplifications as necessary.  Just don’t call it “curating.” How about bleeting? [Warning: Do not google that word.]

Tina Brown gives good interview. She was charming and brilliant the one time I talked to her too. Then there is the reality of the magazine she put out. … Kinsley could have been tougher! …

__________

John Kerry wants answers on Benghazi! And he doesnt care who gets hurt! #especiallyifitsSusanRice

__________

Note to LAT: It isn’t news that Rep. Diaz-Balart and Lindsey Graham want amnesty. (Sen. Sessions, on the other hand, was a sturdy amnesty foe. His oracular comment–“if they really want to end illegality, then things are possible”–might be news, or might not be).

Imagine someone writing this kind of fawning courtier’s overinterpretation of a JFK photo #stopthinkingofArthurSchlesingerP.S.: @Jpodhoretz placed it in the Bullshit Hall of Fame.

Amnesty infighting! DREAMers vs. Comprehensivists. Mark Krikorian seems to be on Team DREAMERs. …

__________

Jill Kelley “was bipartisan in her outreach” …

__________

.@mattklewis: I don’t think Rubio’s alternative “DREAM” plan makes DREAMers go to the ‘back of the line.’ There’s a whole other line–the line to get into the U.S.–that they get to skip entirely. Rubio’s plan only affects the second, shorter citizenship line. Please do not give credence to the ‘back of the line’ con–which falsely suggests that illegal immigrants won’t jump the queue if they get amnesty. …

Here’s a poll MSM won’t hype: 62% say stopping illegal immigration is “extremely/very important.” That handily beats “taking major steps to address global warming” as well as “[increasing] taxes on those with household incomes above $250,000.” … Providing a “path to citizenship for illegal immigrants” got only 37%. … Note: According to the 2012 exit poll, 10% of the electorate was Latino. And 28% of the electorate thinks illegal immigrant workers should be deported to the country they came from (not my position, and a position much harsher than Mitt Romney’s).  …

__________

Remember: We know Romney played the race card because Ron Fournier found a guy near Detroit who talked about “subsidization.” Q.E.D.! … P.S.: Fournier has been milking that guy for over a year now. One day he will find another one. …

Isn’t Sexagon the obvious name for the Petraeus/Broadwell/Allen/Kelley scandal?…

__________

General Motors has decided to focus on pure Electric Vehicles and Plug-ins–i.e., the types of cars most dependent on government subsidy–rather than on conventional hybrids like the Toyota Prius. Makes sense. In a market every firm specializes in what it does best. Toyota is good at making cars. GM is good at getting government subsidies. The invisible hand at work. …

__________

Isn’t it possible that the White House called off a rescue in Benghazi–and that it was the right call? Either the rescue would have failed, or it would have succeeded only at the expense of killing thousands of Libyans and making a permanent enemy out of a country that might become a valuable ally. …

__________

Bill Kristol caves on taxes. When he throws Bibi overboard, I’ll know he’s panicked …

__________

Is there a “Looming Crisis Of Liberalism”? Not much looming in this article, aside from a possible fiscal crisis (that could be solved by pruning, but not eliminating, the welfare state). Why isn’t Isn’t the “Looming Crisis Of Liberalism” that it will pathetically fail to counter the money inequality trends it now makes it a central mission to oppose?
