Noted jazz recording artist and activist Christian Josi and Smithereens frontman Pat DiNizio have teamed up to create a new Christmas single titled,  ‘Holiday 2012.’

“It’s a little Christmas card,” said DiNizio. “It creates a warm, casual holiday mood. It’s a decidedly different approach.”

The two — who are both politically active (DiNizio ran for U.S. senate and Josi once ran the ACU and the CPAC conference) — first met in 1988 on the L.A. set of The Smithereens video ‘House We Used To Live In.” At the time, Josi was co-producing an episode of former KROQ personality Jim “Poorman” Trenton’s local TV show.

The new single is the classic, ‘Winter Wonderland,’ with ‘White Christmas’ as the B-side (there are 2 bonus versions with no percussion.)

“While I’m a rock-n-roll songwriter and singer, I’m not a screamer, said DiNizio. “And what Christian does — is he’s keeping that important tradition alive. He’s very much a purest.”

The cd will be available on iTunes, CD Baby and a host of other outlets this week.

If you’re looking for a stripped down, bossa nova vibe to put you in that eggnog-sipping holiday mood, then this is for you.
