Isn’t New York enough of a zoo already?

A zebra named Razzi and a pony named Casper escaped from their Staten Island owner’s pen Wednesday morning, then ran throughout the streets of the New York borough for more than five hours before they were finally captured.

The two animals escaped from the backyard of their 31-year-old owner Giovanni Schirripa, who was using the animals to attract customers to his Christmas tree business.

According to The New York Times, Schirripa also operated a petting zoo for an Octoberfest event.

But it seems Schirripa’s time with Razzi may be ticking away quickly.

New York only allows the possession of a zebra at a zoo or petting zoo. Schirripa held a license for the Octoberfest petting zoo, but he does not have a license registered for his current address, where he had held Razzi and Casper.

The New York Health Department is currently investigating Schirripa’s permit.
