Hey, remember Orlando Bloom? The actor? He was super famous circa 2001 to 2007, but has been essentially M.I.A. for the past five years. “What happened to that guy?,” you may or may not have thought to yourself every time “Pirates” comes on ABC Family. The Daily Caller investigates.

The height of the English actor’s fame was circa 2001 to 2007, when he starred in “Troy,” the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and three of the four “Pirates of the Caribbean” films.

After that, he kinda dropped off the face of the earth.

Bloom first portrayed the blonde-haired archery expert Legolas in 2001’s “The Lord of the Rings,” and first appeared as Will Turner in 2003’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” He reprised his role as Legolas for the rest of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, but only appeared in three out of the four “Pirates” movies. (Can you really blame him? The first movie was the only good one. They got progressively worse and campy, and Bloom probably already had plenty of money by then.)

During his six-year run as the Hottest Guy Ever, Bloom dated fellow actress Kate Bosworth from around 2002 to 2006. (2006 was also the year that Bloom was the most Googled man, according to his Wikipedia page.)

In 2007, Bloom traded up (sorry, Bosworth!) for Australian Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr. After he started dating his supermodel girlfriend and after he had a ton of cash from doing two blockbusting film trilogies, that’s when he stopped making a lot of movies. (RELATED: Miranda Kerr is the “Sexiest Woman Alive”)

The two were married in 2010, and Kerr gave birth to a son, Flynn, in 2011. One might reasonably surmise that he has spent the past five years rolling around in money with his supermodel wife.

But according to the Internet Movie Database, Bloom has appeared in a handful of films since 2007 (although, you probably haven’t heard of any of them), presumably out of boredom. You can only buy so many Maseratis and have so much sex with a supermodel in one day.

In 2011, Bloom went back to his sword-wielding ways by starring in a remake of “The Three Muskateers,” which got pretty tepid reviews and only did okay at the box office.

He has three projects coming up over the next two years, including reprising his role as Legolas in “The Hobbit,” Peter Jackson’s totally unnecessary three-part prequel to “The Lord of the Rings,” which will rake him in even more millions.

In sum: Orlando Bloom made a ton of money in the early 2000’s, married a supermodel and has spent the past five years acting in a few indie movies and going to bed at night on top of 100 dollar-bills with a naked lingerie model.
