Fugitive software pioneer John McAfee was apprehended by Guatemalan police Wednesday evening, after he illegally crossed into the country to seek asylum from Belizean authorities.

Guatemalan interior minister Mauricio Lopez Bonilla confirmed news of the arrest to Reuters.

McAffe, who was wanted for questioning in the murder of a fellow American ex-pat, had been on the run from authorities since mid-November. He maintains his innocence.

The tech executive founded the security software company that bears his name in 1987.

Three other suspects have been detained for questioning in the murder.
