WASHINGTON — Former Pennsylvania senator and one-time presidential hopeful Rick Santorum made a non-fiscal cliff related appearance in the Capitol Monday, making him possibly the only person in the building for alternative reasons.

Santorum was seen walking around the Senate side of the Capitol with a small group of people. He was wearing beige pants and black zip-down sweater, having apparently opted not to ring in the new year in one of his signature campaign sweater vests.

He told reporters he was showing around some friends who were in town.

“Man, you guys must be really desperate for someone to talk to,” he said, as reporters staking out Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office swarmed around him.

“I wish I knew something,” he said of the ongoing fiscal cliff negotiations.
