The C-SPAN cable network was silenced Thursday for the duration of the Pledge of Allegiance as the 113th Congress was sworn in.

The mysterious muting only occurred during the period when the pledge was taken, leaving nothing more than the live video of the event on screen.

Before and after the pledge, though, viewers were treated to a full complement of both video and audio showing the 113th Congress’s inaugural activities, including the opening prayer.

Howard Mortman, a spokesman for C-SPAN, told The Daily Caller that the network looked into the cause and determined it was a technical error.

“Apologies. A simple technical problem with our mics, soon fixed,” Mortman said.
