Steven Michael Quezada, who portrays police officer Steven Gomez on AMC’s hit show “Breaking Bad,” is running unopposed for a school board seat in Albuquerque, N.M.

Quezada attended public schools in Albuquerque as a kid, but now sits on the governing board for a local charter company, the Public Academy for the Performing Arts. Three of his four children attend the charter school.

Quezada emphasized his support for school choice programs — which allow students to attend whichever schools best suit them, be they public or private — in a statement announcing his interest in the seat.

“I want my kids and all of our children to be able to go to any public or charter school and receive an excellent education,” he said in the statement. “It’s our responsibility to make sure no child falls through the cracks.”

Assuming he wins the upcoming election on February 5, Quezada will have his work cut out for him. The Albuquerque school district has a high school dropout rate of nearly 40 percent.
