In her appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” on Monday, conservative commentator Ann Coulter, author of “Mugged: Racial Demagoguery from the Seventies to Obama,” mused that Republicans should retaliate if President Barack Obama attempts to regulate guns by executive fiat.
Vice President Joe Biden has said the White House is prepared to unilaterally implement several executive orders relating to gun control, leading Coulter to speculate the president will try to skirt Second Amendment complaints by targeting ammunition and weapons clips, instead of guns themselves. “[I] think we should respond with the next Republican president having executive orders [that say] we won’t ban abortions, but we will just ban abortionists and abortion clinics. How would that be? I mean, they’re not serious about doing anything about shooting in America. Dianne Feinstein has a concealed carry permit, for good reason,” Coulter said, referring to Feinstein admitting in 1995 that she had a concealed-carry permit for her own safety.
Coulter suggested that liberals haven’t thought through many of the solutions they have offered to reduce gun violence.
“This business that New York is pushing through about banning the extra-capacity magazine — like all liberal solutions, this has nothing to do with the problem we’re supposed to be addressing,” Coulter said. “If you are going into a gun-free zone, as all of the mass shooters do — all but one since 1950 have shot up gun-free zones — you have time to drop the magazine and insert another one. You have time and preparation to have more than one gun.”
In fact, the story of a Loganville, Ga. woman who used her .38-caliber revolver to shoot an intruder five times in the head is a reminder that large-capacity magazines can actually be vital for self-defense, Coulter argued. (RELATED VIDEO: Mom shoots trespasser, saves young children)
“What if there had been two intruders? What if she had not been as good a shot, and only three bullets hit the intruder? It’s when you have a home invasion that you need a large-capacity magazine, especially if you’re a female who isn’t constantly at the gun range.”
