In a video interview with The Daily Caller, “American Idol” Music Director Ray Chew addressed the feud between Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.

TheDC asked Chew if the feud is real.

“I would say what is real is there’s very real personal feelings on the line and I don’t know if I would characterize it as a feud,” Chew said at Warner Theater before the BET Honors taping, which airs on Feb. 11.

“Maybe they would or maybe they wouldn’t but I think that there’s definitely very real personalities that are affected by each other and sometimes you get people in the room and sparks may fly and sparks may go the wrong way so that’s what happens.”

A video of Minaj and Mariah fighting during auditions surfaced online in October.

The season premiere of “American Idol” airs on Fox tonight.

Before joining “Idol,” Chew was the band leader on “Showtime At The Apollo” and has worked many artists, including Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Diana Ross.
