Paul Ryan booed at inauguration

Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan was met with boos as he left the Capitol for President Obama’s second inauguration ceremony Monday, according to news reports.

The former Republican vice presidential nominee last week had said it was his “obligation” to attend Obama’s public swearing-in and on Monday congratulated Obama on his Facebook page.

“We may disagree on matters of policy. But today we remember why we take those matters so seriously — because we seek the public good. It’s our highest duty—one that we share—and one for which we’re grateful,” Ryan, the chairman of the House Budget Committee, wrote.

“I’m happy to mark this historic occasion —for the president and for the country. And I look forward to tackling the big challenges ahead,” he added.

Obama spoke against “name calling” and “spectacle” during his inaugural speech.

“We cannot mistake absolutism for principle, or substitute spectacle for politics, or treat name-calling as reasoned debate,” Obama said.
