Mitch McConnell has not yet decided whether he will use the power of the filibuster to block President’s Obama nomination of Chuck Hagel for secretary of defense.
In an interview published Saturday by Kentucky news outlet CN|2, the Senate minority leader said his decision on the matter will be forthcoming.
“[Former] Sen. Hagel did not do a very good job before the armed services committee this week,” McConnell said. “I think the opposition to him is intensifying.”
“Whether that means he will end up having to achieve 60 votes or 51 is not clear yet,” McConnell went on, signaling that a filibuster is possible.
“I haven’t announced yet [whether I will oppose him]. I will soon,” said McConnell.
