Did Lena Dunham vote for Obama? Did she vote at all?

Font Size:

Lena Dunham is a young woman who we’re all supposed to take seriously because she created and stars on an HBO show called Girls. Last October, she appeared in this Obama for America ad:

Nonetheless, Obama ended up winning the election.

But did Dunham actually vote for him?

Not according to something called Room Eight, which labels itself as a blog about “New York Politics.” I’d never heard of them before this morning, so I’m taking the following — from someone called, um, “Gatemouth” — with a grain of salt:

In a Gatemouth exclusive, I can now report that according to New York City’s voter file, a Lena Dunham registered in registered in (sic) Brooklyn did not vote in the 2012 general election or in any local elections since she moved from her prior address in Tribeca…

When it comes to voting behavior, Ms. Dunham is almost exactly the role model the right wing should want her liberal generation to follow.

There’s a lot of other stuff in between those two paragraphs that I couldn’t really decipher, but feel free to give it a go.

Dunham is claiming she did so vote. But based on her behavior in that ad, I’m not sure she’s what you’d call a reliable narrator.

Well, the ad certainly didn’t change my vote, and I feel no sense of betrayal that she might not have meant it. But if she was important enough for OfA to recruit, she’s important enough to ask whether she practiced what she preached.

That’s probably sexist, isn’t it?

Update: Whew!
