The administration has approved 34 renewable energy projects on federal lands — including utility-scale solar facilities, wind farms and geothermal plants.
According to the Interior Department, the time it takes to approve an oil and gas drilling permit shrank in 2012 to 228 days. Yet, from 2009 to 2011 approval times grew from 247 days to 307 days.
The number of new oil and gas leases issued each year has fallen since 2009, from 2,072 leases that year to 1,729 leases in 2012.
The White House did not respond to TheDCNF’s request for comment.
