Clad in a custom Naeem Khan shimmery gown, first lady Michelle Obama introduced the nine films nominated for the best picture Academy Award live from the White House.

“The Academy Awards approached the First Lady about being a part of the ceremony. As a movie lover, she was honored to present the award and celebrate the artists who inspire us all – especially our young people – with their passion, skill and imagination,” Kristina Schake, the first lady’s communications director, said in a statement via the pool report.

After introducing the films, Obama was handed the coveted winners’ envelope, but actor Jack Nicholson was physically present onstage to hand the award to the producers of “Argo,” because of that whole time-space continuum thing.
