Filmmaker Michael Moore suggested Wednesday night that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s views were akin to those of Ku Klux Klan members.

“Memo to Tarantino prop dept: Please send one of those poorly sewn hoods from Django to Justice Scalia. Make sure it matches his robes,” Moore tweeted.

Django Unchained, for which Quentin Tarantino earned an Oscar, is set in the South in the years before the Civil War, and features scenes with the Klan.

Moore sent the tweet twice — the first time in two parts with the hashtag “voting rights act,” suggesting the comment is referring to a remark Scalia made Wednesday during the Court’s oral arguments in a case about the Voting Rights Act.

During the hearing Wednesday, Scalia called Congress’ 2006 reauthorization of that law the “perpetuation of racial entitlement.”

The Court is hearing a challenge to the Voting Rights Act brought by Shelby County, Alabama over a provision requiring nine states, almost all of them in the South, to seek approval from the federal government before changing voting laws or procedures.

The law’s current supporters say such measure’s are still necessary to prevent Election Day discrimination against minorities.
