Actor-director Clint Eastwood has signed the amicus brief calling for the Supreme Court to overturn California’s Proposition 8, which invalidated same-sex marriages in the state.

A Republican with knowledge of the brief independently verified to The Daily Caller that Eastwood added his name to the list on Wednesday night. (RELATED: Dozens of prominent conservatives defend gay marriage before Supreme Court)

Eastwood, who spoke at the 2012 Republican National Convention in support of Mitt Romney, told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres last September that his stance on gay marriage is part of the “libertarian idea of leave everybody alone.”

The amicus curiae — or “friend of the court”– document has already collected the signatures of more than 100 prominent Republicans, including former governors, congressmen, and White House officials.
